Spotsylvania, Stafford Schools Address National Rumors
School officials and law enforcement say they are taking the rumors of violence seriously, even though they are 'unfounded.'

Both Spotsylvania County and Stafford County Public Schools issued reassurances to parents and guardians this week that action is being taken in response to national rumors regarding threats of violence to schools in relation to the supposed Dec. 21 end of the world.
"In our communication with law enforcement, we are aware that these rumors are nationwide and are unfounded," said the letter from Spotsylvania Public Schools.
"[T]he local impact has distressed some of our students, parents, and staff," Stafford Schools Superintendent Dr. Randy Bridges said.

Both counties said there will be additional law enforcement supporting schools on Friday, and asked parents to help stop the rumors. "Please do not communicate any unsubstantiated rumor," Bridges said.
Bridges also reminded parents and students about disciplinary action in regard to threats and pranks. "[P]lease remind your student(s) of the SCPS Student Code of Conduct Rule 7 and the disciplinary action in regard to “threats of catastrophic events, by whatever means made, regardless of intent to carry out the threat,” Bridges said.
