Stafford County Schools Open Tuesday, Students Off Wednesday

The snow day Monday complicates the exam schedule and will force many parents to change plans at the last minute.

STAFFORD, VA — Students will not be getting a 4-day weekend, as they likely expected with the announcement of a snow day on Monday. Stafford County Schools announced that Tuesday — which was supposed to be a day off — will now be an early-release school day, with the day off moving to Wednesday.

Students were expected to have an exam day on Monday, but snow in some parts of the county caused a cancelation. The ability to shift the exam schedule is noted in the school calendar.

"Thank you for your flexibility in this matter," read a message from the school system. That wasn't enough to keep some parents from sounding off about a last-minute switch that will make it easier to get through the exam schedule, but harder on parents who scheduled around the day off.

"Not exactly sure how that all works when you have teachers, paras, and parents who have made appointments months in advance for a day off," wrote one parent in a response on Facebook. "Appointments that if changed cost money. Good luck finding substitutes!"
