Stafford Heroin Seizure One of Largest in Region’s History

A New Jersey man has been arrested in what Stafford County Sheriff’s Office staff say is one of the largest drug seizures of its type in the region’s history.
In early May 2013 Detective Nick Chiappini of the Special Investigations Unit began an investigation regarding the shipment of a large quantity of heroin that was destined to be picked up in Stafford County and delivered south of the Fredericksburg region, Bill Kennedy, Stafford Sheriff's Office spokesperson said.
In the late night hours of May 8, Steve Carrington Durham, Jr., was stopped in the Courthouse Road area of Stafford. "A K-9 unit was requested and Master Deputy Scott Myers and his K-9 Khaos arrived on scene and the K-9 alerted on the trunk area of Durham’s car," Kennedy said. A search of the trunk revealed approximately two kilograms of heroin with a street value estimated at $270,000, Kennedy said

Durham, 28, of Brick, N.J., was arrested and charged with one count possession with intent to distribute a schedule I or II narcotic. He is currently incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
During this investigation it was revealed that Steve Durham was currently out on bond for a similar offense that occurred in New Jersey approximately one week prior to his arrest in Stafford County.

"This is still a very active and ongoing investigation and additional charges are likely," Kennedy said. Members of the Drug Enforcement Administration and other unnamed localities are also involved in this investigation.
