Stolen Class Ring Reunited With Owner

Police say suspect in jewelry heist was victim's brother.

Using sly detective work, Fredericksburg police were able to reunite a $500 high school class ring with its owner the same day it had been reported missing. The suspect? None other than the victim's younger brother.

Police have obtained an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Michael Dowd, charging him with felony larceny for attempting to fence the class ring. As of yesterday evening he had not yet been arrested.

According to police, the 21 year-old victim wears the gold and diamond encrusted, engraved ring frequently. Because of this, she discovered her precious ring was missing almost immediately after returning home from two weeks of military training exercises and reported the ring missing.

The detective contacted an unidentified source who was able to provide information on the possible whereabouts of the ring. The information led detectives to a gold trader operating out of a kiosk in the Spotsylvania Town Center mall. Police say the traders cooperated fully with the investigation, putting the ring on hold, saving it from the smelter's forge. The employees at the gold traders were able to identify Dowd as the person who sold them the ring.
