Toilet Tax Cut Protest Draws Small Crowd
Activists call for end to Bush tax cuts.
Fredericksburg Patch was on hand yesterday as a small group of local political activists gathered in front of the downtown library with a toilet. Taped to that toilet: funny money. Their protest was not related to recent hikes in the waste water service fees. Rather, they were marking the 10th anniversary of tax cuts that President George W. Bush signed into law.
Organizers say the money toilet represents lost revenues which could be used to fund social service and welfare programs such as Medicare and Social Security.
In addition to the toilet, the activists also went on a leafletting spree. Walking through downtown Fredericksburg handing out flyers and engaging passerby in political conversations. Despite their eagerness, it was hard to miss the fact that this was a tiny operation. Maybe half a dozen participated in the event.
