Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda Recall Information
How to determine if your car is included in the recall.
Japanese auto manufacturers are recalling 3.4 million vehicles worldwide. "The airbag for the front passenger seat may not inflate correctly because of a manufacturing defect in the propellant used in the airbag inflator," Reuters reported Thursday.
Some non-Japanese automakers were also supplied the faulty air bag device by Takata, the world's second largest supplier of air bags and seat belts, according to Reuters.
Honda

"Honda announced a voluntary recall about 1.1 million cars – 680,000 in North America -- to replace the passenger front airbag inflator," the company said in a press release Thursday. The recall effects:
- Approximately 426,000 model-year 2001-2003 Civic vehicles
- Approximately 43,000 CR-V vehicles from the 2002-2003 model years
- Approximately 92,000 model-year 2002 Odyssey vehicles in the United States
Owners of these vehicles will be notified of the recall by mail beginning in late May, or may determine if their vehicle requires repair by entering their car's vehicle identification number (VIN) at a dedicated page on the company's website, or by calling (800) 999-1009 and selecting option 4.

Toyota
Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. will conduct a safety recall of approximately 170,000 front passenger airbag inflators installed in several vehicle models manufactured from 2001 – 2003. The models include certain:
- Toyota Corolla
- Corolla Matrix
- Sequoia
- Tundra
- Lexus SC 430
"More precise vehicle information is being developed," the company said in a press release. Owners of vehicles subject to the recall will receive a letter, Toyota said.
Detailed information is also available at www.toyota.com/recall, the Toyota Customer Experience at 1 800-331-4331, www.lexus.com/recall and Lexus Customer Satisfaction (1 800-255-3987).
Toyota customers can also enter their car's vehicle identification number at the company's dedicated recall web page.
Nissan
"Nissan is recalling 2001 to 2003 Maximas, Pathfinders, Sentras, Infiniti I35s and Infiniti QX4s in the U.S.," CNN Money reported. The company will identify the specific cars involved and notify the owners.
Mazda
Mazda is recalling some 2003 and 2004 Mazda 6 sedans and some 2004 Mazda RX-8s. The company will identify the specific cars involved and notify the owners.
General Motors
General Motors will recall an estimated 48,000 Pontiac Vibes, according to CNN Money. "The Vibe was made in the same factory as the Toyota Matrix, and the two vehicles are virtually identical."
BMW
According to a document Takata sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), BMW also used the Takata air bag inflator in some of its cars, according to CNN Money. Details are not yet available.

All car manufacturers said once an owner is notified their car is under recall, they should contact their local dealership. In Fredericksburg, those dealerships are:
