Tractor Trailer Driver Charged In Fatal I-95 Crash In Stafford: Police

Authorities have identified the drivers who were killed in a crash involving a tractor trailer on I-95 on Wednesday morning.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — Authorities have identified the drivers who were killed in a tractor trailer crash on Interstate 95 in Stafford County on Wednesday morning.

50-year-old Jonathon Booth of Fredericksburg and 67-year-old Kevin Paddeu of Quinton, Virginia died at the scene of the crash, Virginia State Police officials said.

The driver of the tractor trailer, a 58-year-old man from Carrollton, Virginia, suffered minor injuries in the crash. He was charged with one count of reckless driving.

If convicted, the driver could face up to five years in prison, based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines. He was released on an unsecured bond after the crash.

The crash occurred around 4:42 a.m. on Wednesday near mile marker 136 on northbound I-95, authorities said. The tractor trailer, a 2022 Freightliner, was driving in the center lane when it tried to move into the right lane. As it changed lanes, it collided with Booth's 2014 Nissan Altima, according to the police report.

The crash caused both vehicles to travel into the left lane, where they collided with Paddeu's 2010 Subaru Forester, Virginia State Police Officials said.

"All three vehicles continued off the left side of the roadway and collided with the guardrail before the tractor-trailer overturned on top of the Nissan and Subaru," Virginia State Police said in a news release.

Paddeu and Booth died at the scene of the crash, which shut down northbound I-95 for five hours. Authorities reported that the tractor trailer was hauling 78,000 pounds of beer.
