Traffic Hot Spots for the Fredericksburg Region

VDOT reported these hot spots for the week of March 31 – April 6, 2013.

I-95 Traveler Alert

Monday Only, 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. The right lane of Interstate 95 southbound will close Monday, April 1, near mile marker 147, just south of Exit 148 at Quantico Marine Corps Base. Virginia Department of Transportation crews will be removing a work zone barrier. This information was provided by VDOT.

Monday Only, 12 p.m. - 12 a.m., Motorists may encounter travel delays April 1 on Route 2 (Tidewater Trail) due to a shoulder paving project.  One travel lane will be closed from noon until midnight on Route 2 from the City of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania line and Pierson Drive/North Club Drive. Northbound and southbound traffic will alternate passing through the work zone, directed by a flagging crew. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid any delays.

(New) Monday – Thursday, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.; crews will be repairing potholes on the I-95 on and off ramps located on north and southbound I-95 between the Hanover/Caroline County line and the Stafford/Prince William County line.  The travel lane on the ramps will be narrowed during the repairs.  This is a mobile operation.

(Update) Tuesday and Thursday, 9 p.m. – 1 a.m.; crews will continue repairing potholes on northbound and southbound I-95 between the Hanover/Caroline County line and the Stafford/Prince William County line. This is a mobile operation. One lane will be closed in the work zone.

Stafford County

Falmouth Intersection (Route 1/Route 17/Route 218)

Monday – Friday, daylight – dusk, utility relocation is underway at the Falmouth intersection. Motorists may experience periodic lane closures on Route 1, Route 17 and Butler Road.  This work is in connection with the Falmouth Intersection Improvement Project. Construction work will begin in early 2014.

Spotsylvania County

Route 2 (Tidewater Trail)

(New) Monday, noon - midnight; motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 2 between the Fredericksburg City limits and Pierson Drive/North Club Drive located in the vicinity of the Fredericksburg Country Club. Flaggers will be in place to direct one-way traffic through the work zone.  Motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route to avoid delays.

Spotsylvania County

Route 208 (Spotsylvania Courthouse Bypass, Phase II)

Construction continues on the final segment of the Spotsylvania Courthouse Bypass from Post Oak Road to just east of the Ta River near Lake Anna. Estimated completion date is spring 2013.

Route 3 Widening Project (Spotsylvania County Project)

This widening project of Route 3 is located between Chewing Lane and Gordon Road.

Stafford County

Route 1 Bridge over Aquia Creek

Crews are replacing the Route 1 bridge at Aquia Creek, located just south of Telegraph Road. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment entering and exiting the work zone. Estimated completion date is August 2015.

Caroline County

Route 207 Bridge Replacement Project

Work is underway to replace the westbound Route 207 bridge over the CSX railroad tracks. Eastbound and westbound traffic has been shifted to the eastbound Route 207 bridge. Motorists should be alert to this new traffic pattern. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph in the work zone. Estimated completion date is May 2013.

King George County

Route 301 Bridge over the Rappahannock River

Work is underway on the Route 301 bridge over the Rappahannock River. The bridge connects Caroline and King George counties at Port Royal. All traffic has been shifted to the southbound lanes on the bridge with one lane open to traffic in each direction. Motorists should be alert to construction activity and changes in traffic patterns. Estimated completion date is July 2013.
