Two Charged in Home Invasion Armed Robbery

Police still searching for third suspect who took part in a violent robbery on Altoona Drive.

Two suspects are behind bars following a home invasion armed robbery which saw a 43-year-old cancer patient beaten for money and medication. Police are still searching for a third suspect and hope to make an arrest soon.

According to a police report filed by the Fredericksburg City Police Department, Christopher Deviers and Chad Lumpkins, both 25 years old and from Spotsylvania, were arrested at their homes and charged with robbery and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Police say three men pushed their way inside a home on the 300 block of Altoona Drive on Aug. 15 around 5:45 p.m. One of the suspects brandished a handgun, pointing it at the victim, and demanded that he hand over money and prescription medications.

Police say the victim resisted at first, at which point one of the three robbers struck the victim repeatedly across the torso until he complied with their demands, turning over the medicine and the cash in his pocket. Police were alerted to the incident by another resident of the house who heard the ruckus and called 911.

The suspects ran from the house and left driving in a white SUV. A neighbor was able to provide police with a partial license plate number for the fleeing vehicle, which aided in the investigation.

According to Fredericksburg City Police Public Information Officer Natatia Bledsoe, the victim is suffering from end-stage cancer. The victim cannot speak because his vocal chords were removed in an attempt to treat the cancer.

"Because of his condition, it was fairly well known through his acquaintences that he has a number of prescriptions, including painkillers, that are unfortunately targets for theft," said Bledsoe.

The victim suffered bruises from the assault and received first aid from rescue personnel, but was not taken to the hospital.

The two suspects are incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond. Police say the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are anticipated. Police are not voluntarily releasing the mugshots of the two suspects arrested, saying it could hinder the search for the third suspect.
