The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team defeated Stevenson University, 1-0, on Saturday at the Battleground to improve to 2-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play. The Eagles, in topping the Mustangs, also have now beaten two of the league foes they lost to a year ago.

After a scoreless first half which saw the Eagles boast a 12-4 lead in shots, the UMW offensive pressure finally connected at 52:07, when Matt Alter's cross slipped through the keeper's hands and was deflected in off of a defender for an own goal.

In all, the Eagles led in shots, 21-9, and had four corner kicks to three for the Mustangs. Freshman goalie  Tyler Back made three saves, earning a shutout for UMW.
