VA Man Who Fired Gun Into Crowd Faces Attempted Murder Charge: Police
A 31-year-old man who police say maliciously fired a gun into a crowd is facing an attempted second-degree murder charge.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 31-year-old Fredericksburg man is facing an attempted second-degree murder after he fired intentionally at a group of four people early Sunday morning at a Fredericksburg apartment complex, according to police.
Officers were dispatched around 1:20 a.m. to investigate a report of shots being fired in the 1100 block of Fleetwood Court, according to the incident report.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Sean Favors and the brother of the person who contacted authorities had been involved in a fight outside their residence, according to police. Favors ran back into his apartment and waited for the brother to return, according to police.

"He shot his firearm into a group of four people intentionally as they were walking back into the apartment complex," according to the incident report. "The reporting party then observed two individuals, including the suspect, enter a vehicle parked in front of the leasing office and flee towards Lafayette Boulevard."

A K9 officer was able to track one of the vehicle's occupants to a dumpster where they were hiding, according to police. That person, a juvenile, told officers that they were related to Favors, which led the officers to place them in protective custody following the incident.

Searching the vehicle, investigators recovered a firearm. Later that same day, they arrested Favors inside his apartment without incident, according to police. He was then taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held without bond.

Favors was charged with attempted murder: second degree, maliciously discharging a firearm or missile in/at an occupied building, removal or alteration of a firearm, and gross, wanton, or reckless care for a child, according to police.
On Tuesday morning, Favors was arraigned in Fredericksburg General District Court and a preliminary hearing was set for 10:30 a.m., on Dec. 16, according to court records.
Favors was also arraigned Tuesday morning in Fredericksburg Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on a felony charge of abuse of a child/disregard for life, which is a Class 6 felony. He was also charged with abduction by force/intimidation, a Class 5 felony, and misdemeanor assault and battery of a family member, according to court records.
Favors has a hearing scheduled for 11 a.m., on Jan. 21, 2026, in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, according to court records.
A Class 5 felony carries a potential sentence of one to 10 years in prison or up to 12 months in jail and a $2,500 fine, according to the Virginia Code. Anyone convicted of a Class 6 felony faces a potential penalty of one to five years in prison, or up to 12 months in jail and a fine of $2,500.
The attempted second-degree murder and maliciously shooting into an occupied building charges are Class 4 felonies. If convicted on either of these charges, Favors faces a possible sentence of two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000, under the Virginia Code.
