Vehicle Tampering, Larceny on Marye Street

An officer responded at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday to reports of subjects tampering with vehicles parked in the 800 block of Marye St., Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg Police Department spokesperson, said.

The officer located three males walking in the area.  "One of the male subjects immediately ran away when approached by the officer, while one of the remaining subjects threw some items onto the grass verge next to the sidewalk," Bledsoe said.

These items turned out to be a baggy full of marijuana and a pair of women’s gloves. The officer detained the two subjects and recovered a quantity of loose change from each of them, as well as an iPod, GPS, and a number of CDs, Bledsoe said. All of these articles were seized for evidence.

Another item recovered was a zippered binder containing information that linked it to a vehicle on the street.  That item was returned to its owner.

Edward Washington, 45, of no fixed address was arrested for public intoxication and possession of marijuana.

Michael Washington, 50, of Fredericksburg was arrested for public intoxication
and felony larceny. 

Both were incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail, Edward under a $1000 bond and Michael under no bond, Bledsoe said.  An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

"If you have been a victim of larceny or vehicle tampering, particularly in the areas surrounding Maury Stadium, below the University, or downtown and you have not yet reported it, you are urged to contact Detective Doug Perkins at 540-654-5758," Bledsoe said.

The investigation is ongoing.
