Luminaria at Fredericksburg National Cemetery

A look back at Saturday's event, as Memorial Day commemorations continue Monday.

Fredericksburg National Cemetery was lit Saturday with 15,300 luminaria to honor each soldier buried there.  It was the National Park Service's 18th annual Memorial Day weekend event.

The hundreds who walked the cemetery at any one time halted in respect as a bugler played "Taps" every 30 minutes from 8 - 11 p.m. Historians posted throughout the cemetery told the stories of the Union soldiers buried there, the majority of whom are unidentified.

Memorial Day commemorations continue Monday with these events.  Click the hyperlink for details.
