Virginia Weather Forecast: Cool Week, But Heating Up Toward Christmas

STERLING, VA -- We'll spend Monday with wind chills below freezing, followed by a few cold mornings at the bus stop. But we'll slowly warm up this week, with the warmest day in the forecast on Christmas Day, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service.

It'll be a windy, cold night Sunday, with gusts as high as 22 mph under mostly cloudy skies. Monday morning's wind chill -- or the "feels like" temperature -- will be 17 degrees, and won't climb above 30 degrees all day.

Actual temperatures Tuesday morning will be at 19 degrees, but we'll warm to 39 by Tuesday afternoon. After one more cold morning Wednesday, we'll start climbing slowly to a high of 52 degrees on Christmas Day.

The best chance for showers will be Thursday, according to forecasters.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 39. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon.

• Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 25.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 49.

• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 33.

Thursday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

• Thursday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 46.
