Virginia Weather Forecast: Storms to Start the Week, Dust Off Umbrella

After a weekend of swinging temperatures, from a hot Saturday morning to a sharp, cool Sunday morning, it's no surprise that storms are on the way.

We've had overcast skies since Saturday afternoon that looked threatening enough, but the clouds aren't expected to open until Monday evening, with showers and possibly a thunderstorm.

There will be a lingering chance for showers through the week, with temperatures staying in the low to mid 70s.

We'll finally see sunny skies again next weekend.

The temperature at Reagan National Airport dropped to 59 degrees Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service. It ended a streak of temps at or above 60 degrees for more than three-and-a-half months — the second-longest stretch on record.

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.

Monday: A slight chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 72. South wind 5 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Monday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 8pm. Cloudy, with a low around 59. South wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday: A chance of showers before 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 74. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday: A chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday: A chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 71. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 72.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 72.
