What's Open, Closed For Christmas 2024 In Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Families will get a holiday break from work and school to celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah and other winter holidays.

This year, Christmas falls on Wednesday, Dec. 25 and may result in holiday closures and schedule changes over several days. In Fredericksburg, schools are closed for an extended break. Local government offices and some other services will be closed for several days.

Here are all the openings and closings to know around Fredericksburg for Christmas Eve on Dec. 24 and Christmas Day on Dec. 25.

Here are some of the openings and closings to be aware of in Fredericksburg, Stafford, and Spotsylvania this year.

• City of Fredericksburg government offices: Closed on Dec. 25.
• Stafford County government offices: Closed on Dec. 23, 24 and 25.
• Spotsylvania County government offices: Closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
• Post offices and mail: Closed on Dec. 25.
• Fredericksburg City Public Schools: Closed for winter break Dec. 23 through Jan. 3.
• Stafford County Public Schools: Closed for winter break Dec. 23 through Jan. 3.
• Spotsylvania County Public Schools: Closed for winter break Dec. 23 through Jan. 3.
• Local and state courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed Dec. 24, 25 and 26.
• VRE: The Virginia Railway Express will not run Dec. 24 and 25. On the weekdays between Christmas and New Year's Eve, trains will operate on a limited "S" schedule.
• Historic Sites and Museums: The Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania Visitor Center, in addition to the Stafford County Information Center at Belmont, will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25. The Fredericksburg Area Museum will be closed from Dec. 23 through Jan. 12.
• Libraries: All branches of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library are closed Dec. 24 and 25. The Belmont Satellite Location is closed all day on Dec. 23.
• Trash Collection: Trash and recycling collections will be pushed forward a day. Trash collection scheduled for Dec. 25 will be picked up on Dec. 26; Dec. 26 collection will take place on Dec. 27; and Dec. 27 collection will occur on Dec. 28.
• Recycling/Landfill: The Belman Road Recycling Center and the Stafford Landfill will close at 12 p.m. on Dec. 24 and remain closed Dec. 25. Normal operations will resume Thursday, Dec. 27, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
