$1 Million Powerball Ticket Sold In VA; New Jackpot Tops $1B
A ticket from Fairfax County's Richmond Highway corridor won a runner-up prize in Powerball.

WOODLAWN, VA — A Powerball ticket bought in Fairfax County's Richmond Highway corridor just won a seven-figure prize, according to the Virginia Lottery.
The $1 million ticket came from the Safeway at 8646 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, VA. The ticket matched the first five numbers in Monday's Powerball drawing and only missed the Powerball number. The winning numbers were 19-24-40-42-56, and the Powerball number was 23.
Only six tickets in the U.S. won the runner-up prize in Monday's drawing. No ticket won the jackpot by matching all six numbers. The estimated Powerball jackpot grows to $1.09 billion with a $527.3 million cash option for Wednesday's drawing.

Powerball drawings happen at 10:59 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. The chances of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 25.
The winner of the $1 million Powerball ticket at the 8646 Richmond Highway Safeway has 180 days from the drawing to claim the prize. The Virginia Lottery advises the winner to sign the back of the ticket immediately.
