Bus Rapid Transit Station Artwork For Richmond Highway To Be Shared
Art created by students for Bus Rapid Transit stations in the Richmond Highway corridor will be shared at an upcoming meeting.

HYBLA VALLEY, VA — The next meeting for the planning of Richmond Highway's Bus Rapid Transit will be focused on artwork for the stations.
The proposed Richmond Highway Bus Rapid Transit system will have nine stations along the corridor connecting to major commercial and employment centers, transit and residential communities. The first segment would include stations at the Huntington Metro, Kings Crossing, Beacon Hill, Lockheed, Gum Springs and Hybla Valley. The second segment would go to Hyland Center, Woodlawn and Fort Belvoir.
The Bus Rapid Transit's timeline isn't finalized, but the county anticipates completion in 2030. Last year, the county announced the Bus Rapid Transit will be branded as "The One."

As planning continues, the Richmond Highway BRT Executive Committee will hold its next meeting Friday at the Workforce Innovation Skills Hub in the Hybla Valley Community Center, 7950 Audubon Avenue, Alexandria, VA. The committee will review draft artwork created by high school students for the different planned stations.
The artwork was submitted by students of West Potomac High School, Mount Vernon High School and Hayfield Secondary School. Hayfield Secondary School students were assigned the Huntington Metro, Kings Crossing and Beacon Hill stations and created photography-oriented artwork options. West Potomac High School students created more illustrative art for the Lockheed and Hybla Valley stations, along with Mount Vernon High School students for Woodlawn and Fort Belvoir.

Artwork at the Gum Springs and Hyland Center will follow at a different time and were assigned to the Gum Springs Community Center and South County Teen Center, respectively.
Between two and five art submissions were created for each station. Final artwork is subject to change based on community feedback. A survey is planned from March 13 to April 3 to gather public feedback.
After the survey, the Richmond Highway BRT Executive Committee will receive recommendations on April 17. Once the committee makes final artwork selections, students will work on feedback and make final submissions in early June.
Potential artwork for the Gum Springs and Hyland Center will be presented to the committee in early June, followed by a survey and public outreach from mid-June to mid-July. The committee's selection of the final artwork would be expected in the fall.
