ALEXANDRIA, VA — Scout Pack 888 is proving that small hands can make a big difference in the community with heartfelt service projects. From disaster relief to supporting local shelters, these young scouts are proving that no act of kindness is too small to make an impact.

Several of the scout’s projects focused on alleviating hunger in the community by preparing and delivering breakfast bags for the hypothermia shelter at Rising Hope. Each bag contained non-perishable items like granola bars, juice boxes, and fruit cups, along with a handcrafted, decorative picture on the bag.

“Cecilia,” age 9, shared her experience: “We wanted to make sure everyone had something to eat in the morning. It feels good knowing we helped.”

The scouts also partnered with a local charity, Be The Good Project. Through this non-profit the Scouts filled Little Free Food Pantries, made sandwiches and built seasonal care packages, all in support of local families.

Amber Marchand, co-founder of Be The Good Project, praised the scouts efforts, saying, “The compassion and determination shown by these kids are inspiring. They are setting an example for everyone in the community.”

The scouts’ work also extends to environmental conservation. Over the summer scouts help protect the environment and educate the community by labeling storm drains. The labels placed on storm drains help educating residents about water quality problems in our streams, lakes, rivers and the Bay.

"It’s really great to see these young kids out here working in the community," said one local resident.

Looking ahead, Pack 888 plans to continue their mission with upcoming initiatives. The scouts also hope to inspire other groups to join them in making a difference.
