Mount Vernon Springfield Chamber Celebrates Small Business Week
The chamber representing greater Mount Vernon and Springfield is celebrating the small businesses that make the community a better place.

MOUNT VERNON, VA — National Small Business Week runs from April 30 to May 6, celebrating the contributions of small business owners and entrepreneurs to their communities. Across the U.S., the U.S. Chamber of Commerce reports 63 percent of new jobs between 1995 and 2021 came from small businesses.
To celebrate small businesses, the Mount Vernon Springfield Chamber of Commerce is spotlighting businesses around greater Mount Vernon that have made an impact.
The chamber, which merged in 2022 from the Mount Vernon Lee Chamber and Greater Springfield Chamber, has hundreds of member businesses. Areas represented by the chamber include Burke, Franconia, Kingstowne, Lorton, Mount Vernon, Springfield, and more Alexandria addresses in Fairfax County.

Even as Fairfax County's Richmond Highway corridor is seeing changes with new development, small businesses are the backbone of the community. Fairfax County's Richmond Highway corridor has over 35,000 jobs, and over 95 percent are small businesses with less than 50 employees, according to the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority.
For moving and storage services, the chamber recommends Dan’s Van Lines in Franconia, which Dan La May started decades ago to help with Northern Virginia's residential and office moving needs.

For dental care, one of the newest additions is SuperKids Pediatric Dentistry in Hybla Valley. The dental office provides dental services and orthodontic treatments for kids.
For your home improvement needs, Village Hardware in Fort Hunt is the chamber's go-to. This family-owned business provides everything from lawn and garden items to plumbing, electrical and vehicle equipment. The business also recently donated a new grill to the Mount Vernon Fire Station in Hybla Valley.

Among the locally-owned landscaping companies are Mount Vernon's Campbell & Ferrara, a third generation family business. It can provide landscaping services such as patios, hardscaping, gardens, synthetic lawns and more. Another option is Kingstowne Lawn & Landscaping, which has worked on over 3,500 local properties.
For upgrades inside the home, LIGHT by Alexandria Electric at the Belle View Shopping Center can provide lighting services. The grand opening for the business was held in January.
For kitchen and bathroom upgrades, Brian J McGarry Interiors has been around since 1993. In Hybla Valley, Only Bathrooms LLC recently opened a new showroom with displays of tiles, fixtures and more to help customers visualize what they want.
Flooring needs in residential and commercial properties can be handled by Lorton's Solo Flooring, while Vinyl-Lite Window Factory makes its own windows in a factory on Telegraph Road and has installed over 530,000 in the metro area.
If it's time to update your spring wardrobe, Top It Off is a women-owned choice for women's clothing and accessories.
Animal lovers can find what they need for their furry friends at Pampered Pet Boutique & Barkery in the Belle View Shopping Center or Felix & Oscar in Kingstowne. For veterinary needs, local options include Harmony Animal Hospital, Hayfield Animal Hospital and Colonial Animal Hospital.
On the business side, Springfield's LeMay & Company provides accounting, tax preparation, and financial management services for entrepreneurs, small businesses, and individuals. In the IT department, Springfield's OptfinITy provides managed IT services, cloud solutions, security systems, hardware services, business communications and more.
Attorneys can be sought at The Dean Law Firm PLLC in Fort Hunt; Walsh, Colucci, Lubeley and Walsh PC; Bean Kinney & Korman, PC; and Redmon, Peyton & Braswell. For lending needs, Burke & Herbert Bank is a family and locally-owned bank with personal banking, business banking, online banking and wealth services since 1852.
Last but certainly not least is food. There's quite the variety around the Richmond Highway corridor, from casual bites at Belle Haven Pizzeria & Custard Shack and Capital Chicken to fine dining at Cedar Knoll, Greek and Italian cuisine Mamma's Kitchen and Indian favorites at Dishes of India.
