National Farmers Market Week Observed At Mount Vernon Farmers Market

MOUNT VERNON, VA — During farmers market season, various farmers and local producers bring their food and other homemade products to communities within Fairfax County. National Farmers Market Week will be celebrated at the McCutcheon/Mount Vernon Farmers Market and other Fairfax County farmers markets from Aug. 6 to 12.

The McCutcheon/Mount Vernon Farmers Market on Wednesday, Aug. 9 from 8 a.m. to noon will have activities for attendees, including trivia, corn hole, bubbles and live music. The Fairfax County Park Authority will also give away free farmers market canvas bags and washable produce bags while supplies last. The farmers market is located in the Sherwood Regional Library parking lot at 2501 Sherwood Hall Lane, Alexandria, VA.

National Farmers Market Week is led by the Farmers Market Coalition to celebrate local farmers and producers that support communities and the local economy. The Fairfax County Park Authority runs 10 farmers markets, including the McCutcheon/Mount Vernon Farmers Market. Participating farmers and producers are located within a 125-mile radius, except for those who provide hard-to-find products.

The McCutcheon/Mount Vernon Farmers Market is open Wednesdays through Dec. 20 from 8 a.m. to noon. The park authority reminds customers that food waste composting is available at its farmers markets. Mount Vernon's farmers market accepts SNAP benefits to provide up to $30 of free additional fruits and vegetables.
