GROVETON, VA — Discount supermarket chain ALDI is planning to open its newest location at the South Alex development along Fairfax County's Richmond Highway corridor in March.

The store, located at 6218 N. Kings Highway, Alexandria, VA, will open at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 2. The first 100 customers will get a gift bag filled with samples of ALDI favorites and a gift card through the ALDI Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program. Shoppers can also enter to win a $500 ALDI gift card from March 2 to 5.

This will be the sixth store with an Alexandria address, which include three in the City of Alexandria and three in Fairfax County. ALDI, a discounter supermarket that started in Germany, has opened over 1,000 new stores in the U.S. over the last decade. The supermarket chain sells mainly exclusive brands, as well as limited "ALDI Finds" such as home foods, seasonal foods and more.

The store is part of the new South Alex mixed-use development with 400 apartments, 41 townhouses, and ground-level retail. The development was rebuilt after a massive fire in 2020 that caused $48 million in damages, marking Fairfax County's largest dollar loss fire in history.

As shared at Supervisor Dan Storck's Mount Vernon Town Meeting, a ribbon cutting at South Alex is planned Feb. 22.
