New Pickleball Courts To Open At George Washington Park
As interest in pickleball grows, the Fairfax County Park Authority will open new pickleball courts at George Washington Park.
MOUNT VERNON, VA — Pickleball courts are a new option next to George Washington Rec Center in Mount Vernon, according to the Fairfax County Park Authority.
The park authority will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at George Washington Park, 8426 Old Mount Vernon Road, Alexandria, VA. The brief ceremony will include remarks from Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck, Park Authority Board representative Linwood Gorham, Park Authority officials and Fairfax County Advocates for Pickleball.
The park improvements add six pickleball courts and two dual-use courts with tennis and pickleball striping. All courts have new surfacing, nets and fencing. The project costs totaled $202,306.60.

The same day, the park authority will open pickleball courts at Lewinsville Park in McLean. The pickleball court additions align with recommendations in a recently completed Fairfax County Pickleball Study and are part of an effort to introduce a greater variety of court sports across the county. Interest in pickleball is growing around the county, and the new pickleball courts will address the need for more facilities, the county said.
