Anne Tuccillo and her son Bryan founded Pawfectly Delicious Dog Treats in 2017. Bryan, who has mitochondrial disease started to bake dog treats with his mother at home when he became too old for special education services in his school district and struggled to find meaningful work. The mother and son team created the nonprofit that would help others get meaningful employment and give back to the community.

When and how was your business opened?

Founded in October 2017, Pawfectly Delicious Dog Treats is a non-profit organization in Alexandria, Virginia. Our organization employs persons with developmental and physical disabilities and takes pride in providing meaningful work while celebrating each person’s unique gifts, talents, and abilities.

We are a team-focused business that brings together employees and volunteers to support daily operations of producing dog treats. Being a part of the Pawfectly Delicious team empowers employees to be successful in their work and in turn, promotes a greater sense of purpose both on the job and within their community.

What products or services are offered at your business?

Our team of differently-abled adults make all-natural ginger dog treats. We also feature products for dogs made by local Alexandria makers.

What is your favorite thing about the community your business is located in?

The greater Alexandria community has been so supportive of our mission. Support from the community has allowed our nonprofit to rebound from the pandemic and grow, thus enabling us to employ eight differently abled adults.

Is there any recent news at your business you would like to share with the community?

We recently received a $25k nonprofit American Rescue Act sustainability grant, which we will use to further strengthen our infrastructure and create more job opportunities for differently-abled adults.
