FORT HUNT, VA — The Virginia Department of Transportation will propose temporarily closing an intersection in Fort Hunt due to safety concerns.

At a community meeting on Thursday, VDOT will present its proposal to close the Rollins Drive intersection at Fort Hunt Road for six to nine months. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Belle View Elementary School, 6701 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria, VA 22307 (enter at door 4). If an alternate date is needed, the meeting would be rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the same location.

VDOT cited "community concerns about pedestrian and driver safety" as a reason for closing access from Rollins Drive. Rollins Drive is located on the west side of Fort Hunt Road, while the east side is named Westgrove Boulevard. The intersection has a stop sign on Rollins Drive at Fort Hunt Road, and traffic on Fort Hunt Road does not stop at the intersection. Crosswalks allow pedestrians to cross Rollins Drive and Fort Hunt Road at the intersection.
