Tour De Mount Vernon Returns, Highlighting South County Sites

Mount Vernon Supervisor Dan Storck will bring back his Tour de Mount Vernon event, open to bicyclists and volunteers.

MOUNT VERNON, VA — Bicyclists and volunteers are invited to join Tour de Mount Vernon, a sightseeing bicycle ride highlighting sites in South County.

Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck hosts this annual ride in the Mount Vernon District. The seventh annual event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22 at 8:30 a.m. starting at ending at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton. Participating bicyclists can choose from 19-mile and 38-mile courses. The routes have a combination of paved roads and paved trails with some challenging sections. Ride monitors and Fairfax County Police are on site to help with safety and directions for riders.

Along with the Workhouse Arts Center, the courses highlight sites in South County such as Mason Neck State Park, Gunston Hall (rest stop), Pohick Bay Regional Park, Fort Belvoir, National Museum of the US Army and the Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail. After the ride, there will be music, food, beverages and entertainment.

The event is being held in honor of Storck's late friend Dave Evans, who died in August 2020. Evans was described by Stock as a "community champion, business leader and inspiration for Tour de Mount Vernon." Evans was president and co-founder of La Prima Food Group and had been involved with nonprofit United Community for over 19 years and was on its board since 2017.

Bicyclists can participate with a $30 registration, which includes Tour de Mount Vernon Socks and a $5 donation to Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling.
