Wilson Bridge Fails to Open
Low tide allows ship to pass Sunday morning following mechanical error.

A mechanical issue on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge caused a delay for motorists on Sunday morning, according to WTOP.
The drawbridge was scheduled to open at 7 a.m. for a Navy vessel to pass through, but the safety barriers for cars never locked in place and the bridge never opened, according to the report.
The ship was able to pass through around 7:45 a.m. without the bridge being raised because of low tide. Mechanics are investigating the safety barriers to determine what caused their malfunction.

Traffic was stopped and gates were lowered shortly before the ship’s arrival. During the halt of traffic, some cars on the Outer Loop of I-495 attempted to turn around to get away from the delay, Virginia State Police told WTOP, and drivers were cited for going the wrong way on I-495.
