Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Lieutenant Arrested For Stealing Drugs

HERNDON, VA — A lieutenant who was a 17-year veteran of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department was arrested and charged with with obtaining drugs by fraud, according to police.

FCFRD began an internal investigation on Aug. 1, after learning that a technician had noticed a vial of morphine at Fire Station 36 appeared to have been tampered with. The volume of liquid in the vial was not consistent with similar vials. Also, there was a hole in the plastic-controlled substance.

The technician made this discover during a monthly inspection of medication at the station, which is located at 2660 West Ox Road in the Herndon part of the county. The technician immediately informed his supervisor of his discovery.

Investigators identified three similar incidents that occurred in August and September at Fire Stations 36 and 39, in which vials of morphine and fentanyl were either stolen or been tampered with. Fire Station 39 is located at 1117 Reston Ave.

On Sept. 6, FCFRD notified Fairfax County Police of the incidents and the criminal investigation began. Detectives identified 40-year-old Aleksandra Olegoyna Kazmar of Front Royal as a suspect in the case, according to police. Through their investigation, detectives determined that Kazmar had taken the medication for personal use.

Following her arrest, Kazmar was released on an unsecured bond. She had been on administrative leave during the investigation, according to police.
