2 Schools Under 'Secured Status'; Suspect Identified In Reston Fatal Shooting
Fairfax County police identified a man they say is a suspect in Wednesday's fatal shooting in Reston.

RESTON, VA — Fairfax County police identified 23-year-old Marvin Fernando Morales-Ortiz as the suspect in Wednesday's fatal shooting that occurred at a home in the 12300 block of Fan Shell Court in Reston, according to Chief Kevin Davis.
"He has been known to live at this address where the murder has taken place," Davis said, during a news conference near the home where the shooting occurred. "In fact, it is his last known address of record. He was here earlier this afternoon, and he shot and killed a yet-to-be positively identified, adult male inside the home."
Morales-Ortiz was wearing black pants, a gray and black hoodie, and black shoes, according to police. Davis told reporters that he left the scene on a bicycle, which was recovered later by police.

"Thanks to community assistance, that's how we obtained an image of our shooter so quickly," Davis said. "Fo, for this Reston community, who is experiencing this unusual circumstance, they stepped up immediately and helped out our detectives by providing us an image, and from that, we have developed a name. He's our shooter. He's our suspect."
Out of an abundance of caution, Dogwood and Hunter Mill elementary school were put on "secured status," which means the doors are locked an no one can enter or leave the buildings, according to police. Fairfax County Public Schools will determine when it will be safe to reopen the two schools.

"We believe that our shooter and our victim are known to each other," Davis said. "I don't have any specifics beyond that right now, because we're still working to positively ID our victim. They're both adult males. Again, our shooter, our suspect, has been known to reside at this residence."
Police have not determined a motive for the shooting, according Davis.
"Unfortunately, I've been at too many of these scenes over my career," he said. "There's certainly levels of concern that any community has when a suspect is at large. We have not recovered the firearm that our suspect used to shoot and kill this other man in this house, so we are considering him to be armed, and if he is armed, he is dangerous. Hence, armed and dangerous. We don't have any particular specific information that he is heading to any location in particular, so we're casting a wide net."
Anyone who knows Morales-Ortiz's whereabouts or who has information about this case is asked to call 911.
"We want people to be aware of who he is, what he looks like, or what he was last wearing, and his name, and we're asking our entire community, whether it's schools or residents or businesses, to be alert and call 911, immediately," Davis said.
