Food, Clothing Packed For At-Risk Students At 7 NoVA Schools

HERNDON, VA — Dominion Energy employees helped The Assistance League of Northern Virginia assemble packs of food Thursday morning for students at risk of experiencing hunger across the region.

The volunteers gathered at Dominion Energy's headquarters to pack 1,660 bags of shelf-stable nutritious food, which will be delivered to students at seven Title 1 schools in the City of Alexandria, Fairfax County, and Prince William County.

In addition, ALNV volunteers packed new clothing for the students as well. The clothing was purchased with funds the nonprofit received from donors, sponsors, and grants.

One in six children in Northern Virginia are experiencing hunger or at risk for experiencing hunger, according to an ALNV release. Through its Weekend Food for Kids program, has provided packs of food for at-risk students to bring home and eat over the weekend.

Since February 2022, ALNV has resumed its monthly food packing event, which had been halted during the pandemic.

ALNV is seeking donations from the public to help pay for the food and clothing that it purchases for the children in need it serves. More information about how to donate to the Weekend Food for Kids program or to sign up a group to help pack food can be found on ALNV's website.
