Friday Night Live Brings Music Back To Herndon's Town Green

HERNDON, VA — Friday Night Live returns for its 27th season Friday night on the Town Green in Herndon with a performance by Turtle Recall. The local favorite, which features South Lakes High School alumni playing medleys and mashups of popular songs, will take the stage at 6:30 p.m.

Friday's show will be the first live performance of Northern Virginia's premiere free outdoor concert series since 2019. COVID-19 restrictions forced organizers to cancel last season's live shows, although some bands did present live-stream performances last summer.

The season was supposed to start on July 2, but the Town of Herndon canceled the show so that Herndon Police would have enough officers available to provide assistance at the funeral of Claudia Menjivar and her two children at a nearby church. The three were victims of a June 19 triple homicide in the town.

The 2021 season of Friday Night Live will run through Sept. 24, with free concerts presented from 6:30-10 p.m, every Friday, on the Herndon Town Green.

Performances take place on the Town Green, which is located behind the Municipal Building at 777 Lynn St., in Herndon.

Food vendors for Friday Night Live include Domino's Pizza, Egg Karne, Jimmy's Old Town Tavern, and Dairy Queen. The Herndon High School Boosters will be raising money by selling freshly popped popcorn at each of the shows.

Hop & Wine Beverage will be providing a variety of draft beer from local breweries, including Aslin Beer Company and Mustang Sally Brewing Company. A selection of wine and seltzer will also be available for purchase. Alcohol sales and concessions will cease at 9:30 p.m.

Tip money from alcohol sales will benefit the Herndon High School After-Prom and All-Night alcohol-free Grad Parties.
