Herndon Restaurant Closing After Nearly 4 Decades: Report

HERNDON, VA -- Herndon is losing a restaurant that has been serving the community for nearly four decades, according to a report.

The Washington Business Journal reports that the Ice House Cafe, located at 760 Elden Street, will be shutting its doors for a couple of reasons: the landlord wants a much higher rent, and the owners think that now may be the best time to retire.

The restaurant -- known for its seafood and live jazz -- is auctioning off its items up until Jan. 8, including its famous taxidermy pieces like a walrus, moose, boar, bear, and armadillo, to name a few.

The restaurant enjoyed good reviews on OpenTable -- a 4.3 rating out of 423 reviews.

It's not too late to enjoy one last meal there. You can join them for New Year's Eve, their website notes.

"We’ll be ending 2018 with a grand finale New Year’s Celebration," the site states. "Join us and Mary Shaver and the Smokin’ Polecats for a celebratory night as we bid 2018 adieu and welcome the New Year. We would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our patrons who have supported us over the years."
