'Hound Harvest Festival' Coming To Herndon Next Month

The Herndon event will include contests for dogs and humans, auctions, raffles and shopping, according to Basset Rescue of Old Dominion.

HERNDON, VA — If you're a dog lover you may want to check out the Basset Rescue of Old Dominion's BROOD Ramble next month.

The nonprofit's "hound harvest festival" will take place Sept. 17 at Frying Pan Park in Herndon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The community and all dog breeds are invited to come out and enjoy the fun, family-friendly event.

The event is designed to raise funds for the group, which has been rescuing hounds for more than 25 years.

Food at the Ramble

Lunch will be served at the Ramble starting at 11:30 am. Look for grilled sandwiches, drinks and chips. PLEASE NOTE THAT CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS CANNOT BE ACCEPTED AT THE FOOD TENT. CASH ONLY.

Dog Contests start at 10:00 am

Contests this year are:

  • Ear Resistible: Longest Ears
  • Wag the Dog: Best Tail Wagger
  • Bay at the Moon: Best Howler/Vocalist
  • Awesome Pawsome: Biggest Paws
  • Who’s Mixed Up: Best Mixed-Up Breeds
  • Best Costume: Anything Goes
  • Golden Oldies Strut: (8 years and older)

Back again this year--Agility Contests

The fun agility type contests are back again this year.

  • Run for Fun: Agility Tunnel Run
  • How High Can You Jump? Agility Bar Jump

The Famous Basset 500 Race starts at 1:30 pm

The race will have 3 heats this year: Girls, Boys and Seniors (8 years and older). The winner of each heat will each receive a trophy and other prizes.

Pie Eating Contest starts at 11:30 am

The popular and fun Pie Eating Contest is back again with three heats: Girls, Boys and Seniors (8 years and older). The winner of each heat will each receive a trophy and other prizes.

Photo Booth

Bring your camera to take photos of you and your hound at the free Photo Booth.
