Trial Set for Man Who Fired Stray Bullet That Hit Cyclist
John E. Albers was arrested Saturday night.

The man who was arrested Saturday after the gun he was loading inside his Herndon home accidentally discharged, hitting a cyclist who happened to be riding past his house, has been given a trial date.
John E. Albers, 49, was arrested Saturday night and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
Staff at the center told Patch he was not booked into custody, however, and left the center the same night.
According to the Fairfax County criminal court, Albers is set for a misdemeanor trial at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 11.
Albers declined to comment on the trial until he consulted with his attorney.
Herndon Police said the unidentified cyclist is in the hospital and underwent surgery, but is expected to recover.
Patch will update this story with more information on the charges against Albers as it becomes available.
