We have a quick breakdown of what you can expect this week:

Herndon government: All Herndon government offices will be closed on New Year's Day, but will be open New Year's Eve.

Schools: Schools are still on their winter break, which will last through the entire week of New Year's Day. Kids will be back in school Jan. 7.

Fairfax County government offices: All Fairfax County government offices will be closed on New Year's Day, but will be open New Year's Eve.

Fairfax County Connector: The Fairfax County Connector will run on a holiday weekday schedule for New Year's Eve, and on a Sunday schedule for New Year's Day.

Animal shelter: The animal shelter will be closed on New Year's Day. It is always closed on Mondays, so it will also be closed on New Year's Eve.

Libraries: Libraries will be open New Year's Eve, but will close on New Year's Day.
