'Pardon Our Dust' Meeting Hosted By VDOT For Spring Street Project
VDOT is hosting a meeting Monday to answer questions about the Spring Street and Herndon Parkway project currently underway in Herndon.
HERNDON, VA — Residents of the Town of Herndon will have an opportunity to ask the Virginia Department of Transportation's Spring Street Widening project, which is currently underway near the Spring Street and Herndon Parkway intersection.
VDOT will provide a presentation about the project at 7 p.m., on Monday, at the Herndon Community Center, which is located at 814 Ferndale Ave., in Herndon.
The $22.6 million Spring Street Widening project is being paid for by federal, state (including Smart Scale and Revenue Sharing funding) and local funding. The project will add a number features to improve safety, accessibility, and connections in the area for pedestrians and bicyclists.

As part of the project, VDOT will widen Spring Street from west of Herndon Parkway all the way to the Fairfax County Parkway, allowing for the addition of through and turn lanes.
A new sidewalk and 8-foot-wide cycle track will be installed along northbound Herndon Parkway, which will connect the new Herndon Metro Station to the W&OD Trail. Sidewalks will also be added along eastbound Spring Street from Sunset Park Drive to Fairfax County Parkway.

Work on the project is expected to be completed in late 2024. More information about the project is available online.
