• County Food and Beverage Tax Begins Jan. 1 (fairfaxcounty.gov) — If you live in Herndon, you’re exempt from Fairfax County’s new 4% food and beverage tax when dining inside town limits, but you’ll pay it elsewhere in the county starting Jan. 1. The tax covers most prepared meals and drinks at restaurants, bars, bakeries, and food trucks, and is expected to raise $65 million to ease reliance on real estate taxes. 
• PMMI Foundation awards $160,000 in scholarships (petfoodprocessing.net) — Based in Herndon, the PMMI Foundation has awarded more than $160,000 in scholarships to students across North America pursuing packaging, processing, engineering, and automation degrees. While no specific Herndon students are named, the Herndon-headquartered association is backing future industry talent through multiple named scholarships, member-family awards, and support for camps and student travel tied to PACK EXPO events.
