Star Student Athlete: Herndon High Lacrosse Player Shines On The Field

HERNDON, VA — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

This submission comes from Ruth Epprecht who nominated Dane. The Herndon lacrosse player and his family are neighbors of hers.

How do you know the star student athlete?

Dane and his family are my neighbors. I met them while his dad was walking their standard poodles! The entire family has Welcomed addition to the area. It later came to my attention that Dane was instrumental in finding their house in Herndon online. Thank you, Dane!

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

Dane moved to Herndon last fall from Utah. He attends Herndon High School. He started classes in January 2021 and is a well-rounded student. As a junior, he played varsity Lacrosse in the attack position. A well liked player, he was often found having friendly conversations during games - not only with his own team mates but with the players from the opposing team.

Dane lives with his mom and dad — Jodi and Steve Scott. He has an older brother and 2 sisters. Dane is a responsible teen which is evident as he mentors others in his churches youth group. He is self-reliant and adventurous. Upon graduating he will volunteer as a missionary after which he plans to study commercial real estate.

Dane impressed me from the first time I met him. He is an incredibly unique high schooler. He relates well with adults as well as younger folks. He is smart, level-headed, thoughtful, respectful, and extremely caring. He loves skiing, surfing, dirt biking, driving in his jeep, and traveling.

Always on the move!

Dane is modest and always considers others before himself. He has leaned to deal with health issues by having to monitor them on a daily basis. This has taught him patience and an awareness of others' obstacles.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?

Dane has impressive leadership qualities. While on a church youth retreat, several in his group were boating on the lake. The leader suddenly had a medical emergency. Dane was able to stay focused during this crisis and kept the younger teens from panicking. He was then able to get to shore and get help from the lakes medical staff.
