Two Sterling Men Apprehended after Burglary in Progress on E. Staunton Ave.
Two men were charged after allegedly breaking into a resident's home while the resident hid in a bathroom and reported the incident.

Two Sterling men are in custody after Loudoun County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a burglary in progress early Tuesday morning.
Deputies were called to a residence at the 200 block of East Staunton Ave. Aug. 5 around 1:30 a.m. after a resident reported hearing someone knocking on their door. The resident then reported seeing a flashlight pointed through a window before securing himself inside a bathroom.

The resident heard breaking glass and believed the suspects were inside the home as he spoke with a dispatcher at the LCSO Emergency Communications center.
A K-9 Unit responded to the scene and deputies established a perimeter after the two suspects were observed running from the home through the residence’s backyard.

The suspects were located at the corner of South Buckingham Road and East Tazwell Road.
“The resident provided accurate and timely information while ensuring his own safety,” said Loudoun Sheriff Mike Chapman. “Combined with our deputies’ quick response in establishing a perimeter, we were able to apprehend these suspects before they could commit more crimes in the county,” Sheriff Chapman added.
The suspects, Michael W. Jenkins, 22, and Shane C. Peterman, 26, both of Sterling, VA, were charged with burglary with intent to commit a felony or larceny. Peterman was also charged with being drunk in public.
