Oaks III Development Back Under Discussion

With a town meeting tonight, and the final county meeting next week, the town and the developer are still trying to negotiate.

After a deferral of few months, the is under discussion once again. After a town meeting tonight, the county meeting next week will most likely bring the final decision.

The town and developer Ken Thompson are still trying to negotiate. Thompson has long claimed he just wants the parking spaces, but would have to develop more of the plot to make a return on his investment. The NRA sold the 18-acre plot to Thompson, and would not sell him just the portion needed for the parking spaces. The town has concerns about increased traffic and poor stormwater management. Additionally, the town wishes to keep that town entrance green and tree-lined and is worried about the prospect of more of what some say are ugly office buildings.

Drop in to the town meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at Occoquan Town Hall, and stop by the county meeting next Tuesday. In the meantime, here's a refresher on what we've published on Oaks III so far.
