Salt & Pepper Books Serves Up Cozy Culinary Mysteries

Cozy murder mystery authors Krista Davis, Avery Aames, and Wendy Watson stopped by Salt & Pepper Books in Occoquan April 28 to let customers sample their work at a book signing.

About 75 customers dropped in to look at the culinary mysteries. Each author created a strong female character who was not a detective, but was still adept at solving murder mysteries. The cozy murder mystery genre allows writers to humorously downplay negative factors like violence. Cozy culinary mysteries focus on food.

When Davis first called owner Christine Myskowski to ask if Salt & Pepper Books would display the recipe cards associated with Davis’s Domestic Diva Mystery Series, Myskowski asked if Davis was interested in a book signing. Davis recommended Aames and Watson as well.

Before the event, Myskowski spent four hours moving furniture in the tiny bookstore, and prepared some of the recipes from the books. She featured brownies from Davis’s Diva mysteries, and brie with fig preserves and tomato, mozzarella and basil skewers, inspired by Aames’s Cheese Shop Mystery Series.
