Sew Social Fastens Off Before Moving Out of Occoquan

The sewing boutique plans to make the transition without dropping a stitch.

Next week, Sew Social will be moving out of Occoquan and back to the place where it started: owner Mary Ann Campbell’s home.

Sew Social was in Occoquan for a year, but about six months in, Campbell realized that, despite how much she loved the area, it just wasn’t a good fit for her business.

“We need higher traffic,” she said. “Occoquan is really cute and quaint, but we were only really getting traffic on nice days. Also, our busiest times are on the weekend, but we’d like to be able to be closed on Sundays.”

Most of her employees like spending Sundays with their family.

Campbell also needs a larger store, with everything on one floor. The Occoquan location has two levels, with classes upstairs and retail downstairs. This makes it difficult for her to keep up with everything in the store.

She’s looking for something between Manassas and Alexandria.

“Unfortunately, we have not found a proper location yet,” she said. “We’re still looking for it.”

In the interim, she’ll set up shop back home.

“We know it works there,” she said. Before moving to Occoquan, Sew Social spent two years in Campbell’s home.

“We are having sales related to the move,” she added. “25 percent off all our fabric, notions, patterns, and books, and 40 percent off our furniture.”
