2021 Murder Leads To 38-Year Sentence For Leesburg Man: Authorities
On Friday, a Leesburg man was sentenced to 38 years in prison for the December 2021 homicide of Najat Chemlali Goode in Ashburn.
LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A Leesburg man was sentenced to 38 years in prison for the December 2021 murder of Najat Chemlali Goode in Ashburn, the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney said.
In April, a jury convicted Furqan Syed of first degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and armed burglary.
Shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 30, 2021, deputies were called to a home in the 23200 block of Connie Marie Terrace after a family member found Goode suffering from a gunshot wound. Authorities said the woman was taken to StoneSprings Hospital Center where she died.

On Jan. 3, 2022, Syed fled the country, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said. INTERPOL eventually arrested Syed in Dubai and took him back to the U.S. in March 2022.

"It is unfortunate for all involved because there is so much loss, but it is rewarding to be able to have clarity and accountability for such a tragic act,” Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney Buta Biberaj said in a news release.
In April 2023, a jury deliberated for 90 minutes before delivering a guilty verdict for Syed.
"Our condolences are extended to the family and friends of Najat," Biberaj said. "We wish them grace and peace as they work towards healing."
