
Herman Steverson Townsend Sr., 81, of Leesburg, VA, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at his home surrounded by loved ones.
Herman was born Friday, August 28, 1931, in Leesburg, Virginia. He was one of six children of the late Wilson Townsend, Sr. and the late Mozelle Cooper Townsend. He attended Loudoun County Public Schools and went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. After his military service Mr. Townsend went on to work for Raytheon for 38 years as a supervisor until retiring in 1996. On January 6, 1967, in Frederick, MD, Herman married Mary Frances Johnson.
Herman leaves to cherish his memory a beloved wife of 46 years, Mary Frances Townsend and son, Herman S. Townsend, Jr. both of Leesburg, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel 158 Catoctin Circle SE, in Leesburg, with Rev. Charles Roberts officiating.
