DAR and SAR Commemorate Sister of George Washington with Wreaths Across America

Elizabeth "Betty" Lewis Carter, wife of patriot of the American Revolution Col. Fielding Lewis was remembered on Friday, December 12

The Ketoctin Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution sponsored Wreaths Across America at North Hill Cemetery near Berryville, VA where true daughter of a Patriot of the American Revolution, Elizabeth "Betty" Lewis Carter, was honored. Members of three Virginia SAR Chapters presented colors to open the ceremony and participated in a three-shot musket salute in honor of Mrs. Carter. The Chapters were: Sgt Maj John Champe of Loudoun County, Colonel James Wood II from the Northern Shenandoah Valley, and Fairfax Resolves from Fairfax Resolves.

Elizabeth "Betty" Lewis Carter was the daughter of Revolutionary War Patriot Colonel Fielding Lewis and the only sister of George Washington.

Representing the Loudoun County based Sgt Maj John Champe VA SAR Chapter were President Barry Schwoerer and member Steve Van Deusen. Mr. Schwoerer was lead musket for the Color guard for presentation of colors and he participated in the 3-shot musket volley. Mr. Van Deusen carried the SAR 250th anniversary flag for presentation of Colors and participated in the 3-shot musket volley.
