LEESBURG, VA — A plane skidded off the runway and into the grass at the Leesburg Executive Airport on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said. The airport was temporarily shut down.

The Federal Aviation Administration reported that the crash occurred when a plane's left landing gear collapsed on the runway around 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Facebook, Leesburg town officials noted that no injuries have been reported in connection with the crash. FAA officials told Patch that they did not know how many people were on the plane when its landing gear collapsed.

Virginia State Police said there was at least one passenger on the plane with a pilot.

The plane is a twin-engine Cessna 421, FAA officials said. The 40-year-old plane had just completed a two-hour flight from Smyrna, Tennessee.

The plane is registered to the Leesburg-based Bravo Consulting LLC, according to FAA records. The company did not respond to Patch's request for comment on Wednesday.

FAA officials said they are still investigating the crash. They expect more information to be available on Thursday.
