Leesburg Health Inspections: 4-Week-Old Peppers, Faulty Dishwasher

Several restaurants around the Leesburg area recorded violations during the most recent round of health department inspections.

LEESBURG, VA — Several restaurants around Leesburg and western Loudoun County recorded violations during recent inspections from the health department. Inspectors conducted the most recent restaurant visits between Dec. 27, 2023 and Jan. 2, 2024.

COVID-19 restrictions around the state have disappeared, so health inspectors have returned to conduct most restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

  • Subway #19888 -Walmart, 19360 Compass Creek Parkway Leesburg, VA 20176
    • Date inspected: Dec. 27
    • Total violations: 1
      • Observed the following items above 41F in a state of cold holding: Cheese pizza 47F, Ham near deli slicer 52F, and pepperoni at the line at 46F.
  • Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club, 41601 Raspberry Drive Leesburg, VA 20176
    • Date inspected: Dec. 29
    • Total violations: 2
      • Observed raw shell eggs stored over ready-to-eat sauces in the walk in refrigerator. Ensure raw animal proteins are stored in a manner that prevents potential cross contamination.
      • Observed cooked onions and peppers with a prepared by label of 12/4. Also observed cooked chicken with a prepared by label of 12/14. Ensure ready-to-eat foods are sold or served within 7 days, with day 1 counting as the date the food was prepared.
  • Noodles & Company #442, 1607 Village Market Blvd #112 Leesburg, VA 20176
    • Date inspected: Dec. 29
    • Total violations: 1
      • Observed high temperature dishwasher not reaching proper sanitizing temperature. When tested it registered 155F. Utensils and food-contact surfaces of equipment shall be sanitized before use after cleaning. Person in charge called Ecolab to fix the dishwasher. During inspection Ecolab fixed the dishwash and when tested with the thermo-label, it verified that it reached the proper sanitizing temperature of 160F.
  • BKD Bagels, 130 Purcellville Gateway Dr Purcellville, VA 20132
    • Date inspected: Dec. 29
    • Total violations: 3
      • Observed: There is no cleanser at the handwash sink behind ordering counter. Provide cleanser at each employee handwash sink. Cleanser was replenished by PIC. Corrected at inspection.
      • Half and half at self service counter is under time as a public health control without documentation. Provide documentation of the four hour time periods that the half and half is held, after which if any is remaining it is discarded.
      • Several containers of flour need to be labeled with common name. Provide common name on food items that are not readily recognized.
  • Rodeo's Mexican Grill, 26 D East Broadway, Suite 100 Lovettsville, VA 20180
    • Date inspected: Jan. 2
    • Total violations: 2
      • Observed salsa cold holding at improper temperature. Salsa observed at 51F. Cold hold time/temperature control for safety foods at 41F or below.
      • Observed facility to utilize chlorine as sanitizer for the 3 compartment sink. At time of inspection, facility was unable to provide test kit to measure sanitizer concentration. A test kit or other device that accurately measures the concentration in mg/L (ppm) of sanitizing solutions shall be provided and readily accessible for use.
