Leesburg Health Inspections: Deli South, RJ's Deli
Several restaurants around the Leesburg area recorded violations during the most recent round of health department inspections.
LEESBURG, VA — Several restaurants around Leesburg and western Loudoun County recorded violations during recent inspections from the health department. Inspectors conducted the most recent restaurant visits between Nov. 22 and Nov. 28.
COVID-19 restrictions around the state have disappeared, so health inspectors have returned to conduct most restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.
Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

- Observed chemical dish machine at time of inspection to not be sanitizing wares at proper concentration. At time of inspection, the dish machine was observed with a leak on the chlorine line and build-up on the top of the dish machine. Dish machine was filled and had dishes in the machine. Ensure wares are properly washed, rinsed, and sanitized.
- Observed several smoked turkey breasts with a prepared by date of 11/18 in need of disposition. Observed 3 containers of chili with a prepared by date of 11/19 in need of disposition. Observed a container of coleslaw with a prepared by date of 11/20 in need of disposition. Foods have exceeded the 7-day shelf life, with day 1 counting as the date the food was prepared.
- Observed food prepackaged in a grab & go manner not properly labeled. Label is missing the list of sub ingredients in items such as pasta, mayonnaise, chocolate chips, etc. Several labels are also missing the name and place of business of the manufacturer, packer, or distributor. Ensure ingredients and sub ingredients are provided on the label in descending order of predominance by weight and that the name and place of business of the manufacturer, packer, or distributor is included in the label.
- Observed wiping cloth stored in sanitizer container with over 200 PPM chlorine. Ensure wiping cloths are stored in a sanitizer solution at proper concentration.

- Observed cove base in poor repair by the garbage disposal and sink area. Cove base was observed not secured on the wall.

- Observed a container of marinara and leftover portions of unsliced roasts not properly dated for disposition. If food is held in a food establishment for more than 24 hours, the food shall be clearly marked to indicate the date or day by which the food shall be consumed on the premises, sold, or discarded.

- The facility remodeled the floor in the food establishment. The newly added floor does not meet the coving on the walls. There is a noticeable gap between the floor and the wall juncture. The floor and wall junctures shall be coved and closed to no larger than 1/32 inch (1 mm).
