Leesburg Man Stabbed Family Member On Saturday Morning: Police

A Leesburg man was arrested on Saturday after authorities said he stabbed a family member in the upper body during an argument.

LEESBURG, VA — A Leesburg man stabbed a family member during an argument on Saturday, the Leesburg Police Department said.

The victim, a man in his 20s, suffered injuries to his upper body, authorities said. An ambulance took the victim to a hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries. His injuries were not life-threatening, according to the police department.

29-year-old Joel Escobar-Barrientos was arrested on Saturday morning and charged with one count of malicious wounding. He is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

If convicted, Escobar-Barrientos could face up to 20 years in prison, based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines.

The stabbing occurred around 4 a.m. on Saturday at a home in the 500 block of Crestwood Street SW in Leesburg. Police officers found the victim suffering from a stab wound to the upper body, the police report said. The suspect had already left the home.

Around 5 a.m., police officers found Escobar-Barrientos at a home in the 800 block of Edwards Ferry Road NE. He was taken into custody without incident.
