Leesburg Restaurant Inspections: Waves, Solo's NY Pizza

Several restaurants around the Leesburg area recorded violations during the most recent round of health department inspections.

LEESBURG, VA — Several restaurants around Leesburg and western Loudoun County recorded violations during recent inspections from the health department. Inspectors conducted the most recent restaurant visits between Nov. 15 and Nov. 21.

COVID-19 restrictions around the state have disappeared, so health inspectors have returned to conduct most restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

    • Date inspected: Nov. 16
    • Total violations: 1
      • Observed water pump in the mobile unit to cut off sporadically. Ensure mobile unit equipment is in good working order.
  • Solo's NY Pizza, 700 Fieldstone Dr #124 Leesburg, VA 20176
    • Date inspected: Nov. 16
    • Total violations: 5
      • No written procedure available for employees to follow when responding to vomiting and diarrheal events inside the food establishment. Procedures address specific actions that employees are required to take in order to minimize the spread of contamination and exposure to employees, consumers, and surfaces. Person-in-charge corrected by posting a printed procedure provided by the health department.
      • No soap available at the handwash sink located nearest the pizza prep station. No paper towels available at the handwash sink nearest the three-compartment sink. All handwash sinks are required to be stocked with soap and paper towels or other drying provisions for proper handwashing. Person-in-charge corrected by stocking sinks with soap and paper towels.

      • A container of chicken broth was observed on the cooks line with an internal temperature of 113F for approximately 30 minutes. Chicken broth is required to hot hold at 135F or above to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria. Person-in-charge corrected by moving the broth into the walk-in cooler.
      • A large, covered container of tomato sauce was found cooling inside the walking cooler for approximately 3 hours with an internal temperature of 45F. Tomato sauce is required to be cooled using uncovered, shallow containers or an ice bath in order to reach 70F within 2 hours and 41F or below within a total of 6 hours to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria.
